There are only so many ways you can place the paddle and each one has a different effect. Improving basic key skills is a constant, whether it is forwards paddling or stopping yourself capsizing with support strokes. To really master these skills takes guidance and practice, our class sizes of no more than four allow for lots of individual coaching and a personal feel.
Our aim is to build your skills to develop self-reliance on the water giving you the confidence to eventually go exploring without an instructor. Our instructors will note your current ability and base the session content around that, in addition to the skills that you would like to focus on. Therefore, below is a bit of a menu of the areas that you could choose to focus on during your improver sessions:
- Efficient forward paddling
- Steering the kayak
- Moving sideways
- Preventing a capsize
- Peer rescues and self-rescues
- Safety equipment to carry when going on a kayaking trip
- Planning and safety considerations when going on a kayaking trip
- The importance of self-help and relevant techniques
Equipment provided includes: Sea Kayak, paddle, buoyancy aid, spray deck, cag/windproof, and helmet for the sessions that require it.
